EMT948
Build like a German Panzer yet supremely refined in its handling of vinyl, the EMT948 was go-to turntable for well-heeled broadcasters. This one for some reason wound up in a pigeon coop in southern Spain from where it was duly rescued by ReelTape. The deck is in relatively good shape but stands in need of a thorough overhaul which is scheduled for October. It will be provided with Ortofon’s flagship moving magnet cartridge, the 2M Black Beethoven Edition or the original EMT TSD15 moving coil cartridge.
Revox A77 High Speed
This A77mkIII High Speed has been fully rebuild with new everything and then some. It has already been aligned on the oscilloscope and is about to move to the ReelTape mastering studio for a final series of checks and listening tests. On the workbench the recorder measures to beyond expectation with a frequency response well beyond Revox’ own specs. Not to be disrespectful, but this 2-track high-speed A77 may well be the proverbial “poor man’s” master recorder.

Revox PR99mkIII for Sale
Fully Rebuilt to As-New Condition
This particular Revox PR99mkIII stood abandoned for a great many years after an events organizer in Bry, northern France, replaced it with some digital gadget. The machine sat snuggly in a sturdy flight case in the company’s warehouse and was all but forgotten until ReelTape offered to buy and rescue it from oblivion.
While this last iteration of the PR99 looked fine on arrival, it turned out to suffer from several more or less serious faults and imperfections. For the full story on the restoration of this machine, please see the workbench log.

This unit has the much-coveted original build-in VU meters and the associated controls, making it an all-in-one solution for both studio and live recording.
This model is the largest and most sophisticated of Studer’s “portable” machine. However, portable is a relative concept in this case with the machine weighing in at some 31 kilos.
Sublime Unequalled Condition
This A810 has been sparingly used. The wear pattern on the heads is barely 1.5mm wide. Cosmetically, the machine is in near-mint condition. The A810 was owned by a collector in France who barely used it other than to record and play Miles Davis vinyls.
Reel-to-reel recorders have been part of my life for as long as I care to remember. In 1964 – I was just four years old – my dad bought a new 2-track Revox G36 and had it shipped to the Caribbean.
I watched those big reels spin for hours on end, amazed at the music that they seemed to contain.
After a lifelong career as a foreign correspondent, I have now started a business where I repair, restore, trade, and use R2R recorders to record (direct-to-tape) musicians from smaller ensembles to symphony orchestras.
